An exciting opportunity has emerged to become a part of the Liaison Psychiatry Team in Southampton. The team is aligned with the national Core 24 model, our service is evolving to meet the Hampshire and IOW mental health transformation priorities. Liaison psychiatry is a crucial component of the 24/7 Urgent Care Model, providing a fantastic chance for a motivated individuals interested in working in an acute hospital setting. This role offers the opportunity to deepen your knowledge in both physical healthcare and crisis intervention., Liaison Psychiatry is the subspecialty of Psychiatry involving assessment and management of mental health needs related to physical problems. Clinical presentations span a wide spectrum from organic psychosis, severe depression or somatoform disorder to adjustment reactions, delirium, dementia, and abnormal health behaviour.

This service aims to provide acute hospital staff with specialist advice on the management of psychological problems. The team prioritises on risk, location and complexity of referrals and coordinates resources appropriately. Autonomous working, diagnostic skills, formulation, and comprehensive risk assessment are important to make a safe management and discharge plan.

The primary function of this role is to provide clinical leadership to the day-to-day operation of the team (Across all services within Liaison Psychiatry*). However, it may be appropriate for the post holder to carry a small caseload of service users, for example in the delivery of a specialist intervention. This arrangement would be subject to regular review and would cease if the carrying of a small caseload became an obstacle to delivery of the primary function.

To champion a culture, across the service and within UHSFT, based on principles of recovery, choice, and personalised care, providing a role model to the rest of the team.

We are seeking a highly motivated, enthusiastic mental health professionals committed to promoting patient-focused care and treatment for adults in an acute hospital environment. Successful candidates will possess excellent leadership skills and will work across the acute general hospital, providing mental health assessments and brief interventions to patients in the Emergency Departments and inpatient wards. Additionally, they will offer support, advice, and training to acute hospital colleagues.

The successful candidates will receive comprehensive induction, regular supervision, and reflective practice. The role requires working a flexible shift pattern over a 24/7 schedule. We welcome applications for a full-time role.
