At Hammonds Furniture, we are a family-run business that specialises in fitted furniture and tailored storage solutions. With over 20 showrooms nationwide, we are dedicated to providing exceptional service and innovative designs to our customers. Our vision is to create well-ordered homes, and we believe our furniture has the power to transform living spaces. Join us at a truly transformative moment as we re-imagine our People, Culture & Organisation function for the future.

As our People Operations & Development Lead, you’ll be part of a small, ambitious team working directly with our Head of People, with a dotted line to our Head of Learning & Culture, and in close partnership with our Talent & Experience Lead. You’ll play a pivotal role in shaping a new vision, building modern people systems from the ground up, and helping create a people-centred organisation designed for the next decade—not the last. With a renewed focus on culture transformation, innovative technology, and AI-enabled ways of working, you’ll help lay the foundations for how our people grow, develop, and thrive. This is an incredible time to join us: your ideas, leadership, and willingness to build, experiment, and innovate will directly influence the future of how we work.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead the evolution of our people operations function and drive development initiatives across the organisation.
  • Own and enhance core people processes, streamlining systems and introducing smarter, tech‑enabled ways of working.
  • Partner with managers across the organisation to build capability, confidence, and consistency.
  • Support and mentor our People Partner and People & Culture Coordinator—helping them grow and embedding cohesive, high‑quality people practices.
  • Redesign key elements of our people experience, including performance, progression, development frameworks, and the integration of new tools and platforms.

You’ll be central to creating a seamless, empowering, and future‑ready people foundation.

How you’ll work: This role has no direct reports, so you’ll need to be both hands‑on and strategic—able to dig into the detail while keeping sight of the bigger picture. We work within a highly collaborative “web of work,” where we share ownership, play to our strengths, and deliver in an agile, dynamic way.

Who will thrive here: This role is ideal for someone with tenacity, creativity, discipline, and change agility—a systems thinker who thrives in ambiguity, embraces iteration, and brings both imagination and rigour to building what comes next.

What you will bring:

  • Strong background in data and analysis.
  • Preferred but not required – background in HR, reward, learning, or people analytics.
  • Proven ability to analyse data and produce detailed reports.
  • Experience in coordinating or reporting on learning and development activities.
  • Skilled in HR systems and process improvement.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong influencing and relationship‑building skills across senior stakeholders.
  • Highly organised and detail‑focused, able to manage multiple priorities and projects.
  • A genuine passion for culture, living our values — Be Real, Be Committed, Be Creative — and inspiring others to do the same.

As a family business we will provide:

  • 33 days of annual leave (including bank holidays).
  • Additional annual leave purchase scheme.
  • Contributory pension scheme.
  • Access to discounts through Perkbox.
  • A supportive and creative team environment where your contributions make an impact.
