Clinical Nurse Specialist – Kidney Recipient Coordinator in London

A new and exciting opportunity has arisen to join the kidney transplant team. Kidney is the treatment of choice for patients with chronic kidney disease. As a kidney recipient coordinator CNS you will be part of a dynamic and friendly multidisciplinary team facilitating the promotion, development and enhancement of the kidney transplant pathway.

Main duties of the job

• Provision of specialist, high quality, expert nursing care and support for patients with kidney failure and their carers in liaison with the multidisciplinary team(s) and other health agencies.
• To act as a resource for patients and the clinical team by the provision of comprehensive advice, information, teaching and training both within the Trust and externally.
• Undertake, where appropriate, nursing research with published outcomes, updating own knowledge to promote excellence in clinical practice and the setting of quality standards within the renal transplant speciality.
• Contribute in audit processes. As part of the team, formulate an annual report/clinical audit of own CNS service and outcomes.
• Active involvement in the development of the service locally and nationally.
• To provide sound clinical leadership and develop support mechanisms for sharing good practice within the clinical setting and Trust wide.
• Maintain and update own clinical expertise and contribute as role model to ensure the delivery of nursing care is at highest possible level to meet patient care.
• To be actively involved in the development of Trust policies and procedures, providing specialist input, leading their implementation and reinforce their use.

Person specification

Education/ qualifications

• Essential criteria: Registered Nurse, Teaching and Assessing qualification or equivalent teaching experience, Post registration experience in a relevant area with experience of change management.
• Desirable criteria: Has attained a Degree in management/professional nursing issues, Leadership qualification.

Experience

• Essential criteria: Significant post registration experience in specialty area and experience in either junior specialty role or team leader/ward management role, Experience with managing patient relevant to specialist area, Ability to work within a team and independently, Proven teaching and assessing skills.

Skills/knowledge/ abilities

• Essential criteria: Demonstrate commitment through involvement in Trust wide initiatives/ committees, Able to demonstrate highly developed specialist knowledge of own patient group, Knowledge of research and audit including implementation of findings and review of outcomes, Evidence of continuing professional development, Ability to practice within the scope of the NMC Code of Professional Conduct, Flexible, Good IT skills, understanding of office Works suite including PowerPoint, Ability to demonstrate application of the NHS Plan to own sphere of practice, Able to manage difficult situations effectively, Able to prioritise and meet deadlines, Demonstrate the ability to compile complex written information.
