We are seeking an experienced Band 7 Apheresis Nurse Practitioner to join our specialist in-house Haematology Apheresis team. As our service expands, we need someone with strong acute haematology expertise—across both malignant and benign specialties—to help us continue delivering exceptional care.

  • Innovative Treatments: We offer a wide range of therapeutic apheresis procedures, including leukodepletion, plasma exchange, and automated red cell exchanges (RCE) for sickle cell disease.

Main duties of the job:

  • Provide specialist Apheresis services, including therapeutic plasma exchange and red cell exchange.
  • Support the haematopoietic stem cell transplant programme through the collection and harvesting of cellular products.
  • Participate in the on-call provision and outreach TPE Neurology service.
  • Contribute to the growth and development of the therapeutic RCE programme.

Person specification:

Education / qualifications:

  • Essential criteria:
  • NMC: First level registered nurse and active/valid registration
  • Haemato-oncology experience (to include HSCT)
  • Recognised post-registration training relevant to specialty – Apheresis certification
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development supporting NMC revalidation
  • Chemotherapy certification
  • Recognised teaching/assessing qualification
  • Preceptorship / Supervisory experience
  • Degree or diploma
  • Desirable criteria:
    • Management certificate or equivalent experience
    • Masters Level study or willingness to undertake

    Experience:

    • Essential criteria:
    • Experience as apheresis nurse Haematology / Cancer nursing background
  • Desirable criteria:
    • Ongoing commitment to training

    Skills / knowledge / abilities:

    • Essential criteria:
    • Knowledge of quality, standard setting and audit
    • Expert in therapeutic application of apheresis procedures and as operator
    • Expert in IV administration and venous access care
    • Ability to lead / engage a large and diverse team / Team building
    • IT Skills (Including proficiency with Microsoft Office Packages and accurate, fast typing skills)
    • Capable of working strategically (business planning, service improvements, strategies for infection control)
    • Time management / Ability to meet deadlines / prioritisation
    • Ability to undertake surveys or audits, as necessary e.g. audit of clinical incidents
    • Roster management / coordinating workforce to meet demands of service
    • Ability to keep up to date with professional developments / professional issues relevant to specialty
