The Place Department is looking for a School Crossing Patroller to join the Parking service, playing a crucial role in ensuring the safety of pedestrians traveling to and from school and being an integral part of the local community.
Responsibilities
- Use a school crossing patrol sign (lollipop) to give clear signals to drivers, ensuring pedestrians cross the road safely.
- Control children waiting to cross the road and take appropriate actions to prevent traffic accidents.
- Assess vehicle speed, road junctions, and adverse weather conditions to determine the safest crossing times.
- Monitor traffic flow and report any problems or incidents to the Parking Policy Manager and, where necessary, to the Head Teacher.
- Adhere to training provided and maintain a friendly, clear, and assertive communication style with pedestrians and drivers.
- Stand and walk for set periods, maintaining physical fitness and alertness at all times.
Qualifications
- Basic knowledge of road safety, including how vehicle speed and distance can change with road conditions and weather.
- Good verbal communication skills and the ability to address children and adults calmly and effectively.
- Physical fitness and alertness, capable of standing and walking for set periods.
- Reliability, punctuality, and an assertive yet friendly approach to ensuring safety.
- Training will be provided; no prior experience is required.
