About The Role

At Hammersmith & Fulham, we are ambitious in reforming the council to ensure this is a place for everybody. Within the Housing & Neighbourhoods department, we aim to be efficient in everything that we do. We are committed to improving housing standards and ensuring residents have access to safe, secure and high‑quality homes. Our offer as an employer includes a supportive, inclusive working environment with opportunities for development and progression. This is an exciting time to join us as we reshape the regulation of our private rented sector. With over 30,000 private rented homes in the borough and rising expectations following major legislative reform, the Private Sector Housing Service is undergoing a major transformation to become more proactive, tenant‑focused and intelligence‑driven, supported by expanded staffing and service redesign. As part of an expanded, dynamic and high‑performing team, you will play a critical role in investigating housing conditions, taking enforcement action, and working with landlords and residents to improve outcomes across the borough.

Role Duties

Role duties will include core work around the investigation of complaints of poor housing conditions, unlicensed properties, property inspections, and undertaking enforcement action as necessary. High standards of customer care and communication, together with an emphasis on effective collaboration, are required.

Role Specific Qualifications

A formal qualification in Environmental Health, Building Surveying, Construction, or a similar field.

Benefits and Working Conditions

Access to a comprehensive total reward package. Flexible working is available for all staff.

Equal Opportunities Statement

Hammersmith & Fulham Council is committed to promoting equal opportunities and ensuring equitable access to jobs for all. We do not apply any unnecessary conditions or requirements that would have a disproportionately adverse effect on any group. No applicant or employee will receive less favourable treatment because of age, disability, gender reassignment, race, religion or belief, sex, sexual orientation, marriage or civil partnership and pregnancy or maternity, unless a Genuine Occupational Qualification applies.

Safeguarding Commitment

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and adults. All employees, workers and volunteers share this commitment, and our recruitment and selection practices reflect this principle.
