About the Role

We are looking for a highly organised, politically aware and proactive individual to join us as Political Assistant to the Conservative Group.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Conservative Group Leader and Members in carrying out their political duties.
  • Provide high‑quality research, administrative and organisational support.
  • Coordinate meetings, prepare briefings, draft speeches and statements, and monitor political and policy developments affecting the borough.
  • Organise meetings, agendas, papers, minutes and follow‑up actions.
  • Draft speeches, statements, motions and questions.
  • Monitor council business, policy developments and wider political activity, highlighting issues of interest to the Group.
  • Build effective working relationships with councillors, officers and external stakeholders.
  • Support communications activity, including social media content and political messaging where appropriate.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Experience providing administrative, research or communications support.
  • Knowledge of Conservative Party policy and an understanding of the wider political landscape.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with a range of stakeholders.
  • Good digital skills, including Microsoft Office and social media platforms.
  • Flexibility to work occasional evenings, weekends and public holidays when required.

Contract & Conditions

This is a full‑time post on a fixed‑term contract until May 2030. This post is politically restricted under the provisions of the Local Government and Housing Act 1989.
