We are seeking an enthusiastic and committed

Functional Skills (FS) English Lecturer to join the Adult Learning and Skills Service.

This 0.5 role will support the development and delivery of our English provision across the borough, ensuring adults gain literacy skills for life, learning and work.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging and inclusive teaching and learning, ensuring high standards across planning, delivery and assessment.
  • Produce high‑quality lesson plans, schemes of work and Individual Learning Plans (ILPs).
  • Deliver accredited Functional Skills English qualifications (Entry 1 to Level 2) and support GCSE delivery.
  • Work within government‑funded adult education frameworks and maintain excellence across Ofsted, audit and compliance requirements.
  • Support learners to develop reading, writing and communication skills, building confidence, resilience and independence, especially with less‑able and disadvantaged learners.
  • Participate in interviews, initial assessments, ongoing reviews and curriculum development to meet community needs and local priorities.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Level 4 teaching qualification.
  • Strong background in teaching Functional Skills English to adults aged 19+ in government‑funded settings.
  • Demonstrated effective teaching practice, commitment to high‑quality adult learning and understanding of sector‑wide quality standards.
