About The Role
Are you passionate about improving public health and reducing health inequalities?
Do you have the leadership skills to drive strategic initiatives and collaborate with a wide range of partners?
If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you to join our team as the Director of Public Health at Hammersmith & Fulham Council.
As the Director of Public Health, you will be the system leader for improving the health and wellbeing of our residents, reducing inequalities in health outcomes, and protecting local communities from public health hazards.
You will be the principal adviser on all health matters to elected members, officers, and partners, with a leadership role spanning health improvement, health protection, and healthcare public health.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership to drive improvements in health and wellbeing and reduce health inequalities.
- Collaborate with local communities, the NHS, and other partners to develop and implement innovative solutions.
- Produce an independent annual report on the health of the population, progress on improving health, and reducing inequalities.
- Advise on public health matters to elected members, officers and partners.
- Develop and deliver a Health and Wellbeing Strategy based on the assessed needs of the population.
- Lead and manage a multi‑disciplinary team to deliver effective public health services.
- Ensure the development and delivery of plans to protect local communities from public health hazards.
About You
- You must have a GMC, GDC or UKPHR Public Health specialist registration or, if currently on specialist training, be eligible for registration within six months of interview.
- Proven experience in public health leadership and management.
- Strong understanding of the social determinants of health and strategies to address health inequalities.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work strategically and influence policy and practice.
- Commitment to continuous professional development and improvement.
- Role Specific Qualifications
- Inclusion in the GMC Full and Specialist Register with license to practice / GDC Specialist List or inclusion in the UK Public Health Register (UKPHR) for Public Health Specialists at the point of application.
- If included in the GMC Specialist Register/GDC Specialist List in a specialty other than public health medicine/dental public health, candidates must have equivalent training and/or appropriate experience of public health practice.
- Public health specialty registrar applicants who are currently on the UK public health training program and not yet on the GMC Specialist Register, GDC Specialist List in dental public health or UKPHR must provide verifiable signed documentary evidence that they are within 6 months of gaining entry to a register at the date of interview.
Portfolio route applicants are not eligible until included on the register.
The six‑month rule does not apply to these portfolio route applicants.
- If an applicant is UK trained in Public Health, they must also be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview.
- If an applicant is non‑UK trained, they will be required to show evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT.
- MFPH by examination, by exemption or by assessment, or equivalent.
