ASSISTANT EDITOR

Hammer Creative London is seeking an Assistant Editor with a passion for the video games industry. The ideal person will be self-motivated, detail-oriented, and have experience finishing audio/visual content.

This role is key in maintaining Hammer Creative’s high quality bar for finished assets, working to color correct and master trailers and social media optimized assets.

You’ll also have the chance to grow your creative editorial skills through the creation of trailer cutdowns and short form content, and by monitoring and learning from all the projects that come through you for finishing. You will manage sequences with great attention to detail, ensuring frame-accurate, online, and QC sequences and files. In addition to QC’ing your own projects, you may review sequences of other finishing editors before exporting.

Maintaining clear and consistent communication with the Hammer Los Angeles team will be vital to ensure the two offices can collaborate effectively and efficiently, and you will frequently pick up projects and pass them back to leverage the two time zones.

This is a hybrid work-from-home/onsite position, with the default being work-from-home, but with onsite work on an as-needed basis at our studio in London.

Responsibilities

  • Create and organize offline projects for editors. At times, the Assistant Editor will assist the editor in organizing selects.
  • Upload and download assets through secure file transfer systems.
  • When needed, help pull selects, organize footage, and locate specific shots and dialogue for editorial staff.
  • When necessary, ensure updated footage is properly overcut across all editor projects and ensure proper workflows are being followed.
  • Operate as a creative editor when the opportunity arises. Communicate with producers and follow the proper workflows.
  • Download and convert footage for editorial use.
  • Ingest and manage assets through our server pipeline.
  • Maintain asset organization and folder structure on internal servers. Reach out to the relevant department when procedures aren’t being followed.
  • Manage archived projects for file integrity and flag files for deletion or archival.
  • Research and download stock footage when necessary.
  • Transcode proxies for media and sync footage when necessary.
  • On receiving sequences flag any inconsistencies you find between the timeline and the most recent export.
  • Prep locked sequences for audio mix, color, and picture online.
  • Conform high resolution source media to locked edit sequences for finishing.
  • Create mix preps and send them to the appropriate audio engineer.
  • Complete preliminary picture reviews of projects before they get sent to finishing. If mistakes are found, follow the proper guidelines.
  • Modify approved edits for various social channels adhering to exact specifications needed for platforms.
  • Deliver final files to internal staff for final QC when complete.
  • Upon project delivery and completion, store H.264 versions of edits and archive project files.
  • Help onboard new staff and freelance editors to our systems and workflow to ensure they’re projects are up to our standards of organization.
  • Contribute to documentation as required to ensure proper editorial workflow and process is documented and up to date.

Skills and Experience

  • 1 year minimum of experience working with Premiere Pro
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite including Photoshop and After Effects
  • Familiarity with various HD video formats and associated transcoding workflow
  • Understanding of frame rates, conversions, and codecs
  • Comfortable with picture onlining workflows and some color correction
  • Experience with preparing and organizing offline edits for finishing and mastering
  • Understanding of quality control protocols with regards to final deliverables
  • Technical know-how for on-the-fly equipment, software, and/or project fixes
  • Experience in high-volume trailer houses is a plus
  • Knowledge of Davinci Resolve and the color correction workflow is a strong plus
