A large, complex UK organisation is seeking an experienced Interim Financial Controller to provide senior financial leadership during a period of operational focus and finance transformation. This role carries responsibility for financial control, consolidated reporting, forecasting, and supporting commercial decision-making across a multi-entity environment. The Interim Financial Controller will work closely with the Finance Director and senior leadership team to ensure robust financial governance, clear performance insight, and delivery of key finance initiatives. The assignment requires a hands-on, delivery-focused interim who can quickly establish control, build credibility with stakeholders, and add value from day one.
Key Responsibilities
- Financial Control & Governance: Own and maintain a strong financial control environment, ensuring consistency, accuracy, and compliance with group accounting policies and IFRS. Oversee balance sheet integrity, reconciliations, and month-end close processes. Act as the escalation point for technical accounting queries and judgement-based accounting matters.
- Reporting & Performance: Lead the preparation and review of weekly, monthly, and periodic management reporting. Consolidate forecasts, budgets, and performance data to provide clear insight into financial results and forward-looking outlooks. Deliver high-quality financial analysis and commentary to support senior decision-making.
- Audit & Compliance: Serve as the primary point of contact for internal and external audit activity. Ensure timely resolution of audit queries and maintenance of audit-ready documentation. Support statutory reporting and year-end processes as required.
- Business Partnering & Stakeholder Management: Partner closely with senior operational and commercial leaders to support performance management and financial decision-making. Communicate financial results clearly to finance and non-finance stakeholders, including at executive level. Deputise for the Finance Director at key meetings where required.
- Transformation & Improvement: Support finance transformation initiatives, including process improvement, standardisation, and system enhancements. Drive continuous improvement in reporting efficiency, controls, and financial processes. Deliver ad-hoc analysis and project support, including benchmarking and strategic reviews.
Candidate Profile
- Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
- Significant post-qualification experience in a Financial Controller or senior finance leadership role.
- Strong technical accounting capability with solid IFRS knowledge.
- Proven experience operating a robust financial control environment.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Comfortable working in complex, multi-entity organisations.
