A long-established independent education site set within extensive landscaped grounds is seeking a skilled General Builder to join its in-house Estates team. This is a varied and hands-on role supporting the maintenance and upkeep of a large and diverse estate, featuring both historic and modern buildings.
You will work as part of a multi-disciplinary estates department, contributing to planned maintenance, reactive repairs, and general building works across the site.
Key Responsibilities- Carry out planned and reactive building maintenance across a varied estate
- Undertake general building, paving, external works, roofing repairs and maintenance
- Support drainage maintenance including gulley clearing, gutter cleaning, and roof clearing
- Assist with erection and safe use of access equipment including scaffold towers
- Support the escorting of contractors on site when required
- Transport and distribute materials across site for maintenance activities
- Contribute to planned preventative maintenance programmes
- Work independently or as part of a team to complete tasks efficiently
- Maintain strong compliance with Health & Safety procedures (including COSHH, PUWER, Working at Height)
- Ensure high standards of workmanship, safety, and attention to detail at all times
- Multi-trade building experience (general building background essential)
- Proven experience in maintenance or construction environments
- Ability to manage a varied workload across multiple tasks/projects
- Full UK driving licence
- Strong communication skills and a team-focused approach
- Good understanding of Health & Safety requirements on site
- Experience within educational or regulated environments
- Knowledge of Building Regulations
- PASMA and/or IPAF certification
- Basic plumbing experience
- £35,000 - £37,000
- Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week - 8am - 4.30pm
- 5 weeks holiday plus UK Bank Holidays
- Free Lunches provided
- Additional flexibility during school holiday periods (with some restrictions during peak periods)
- Christmas to New Year site closure (emergency cover only)
- Overtime and flexibility may be required depending on workload
- Use of gym facilities
