The Sustainability Team supports Hamilton Lane’s commitment to responsible, long-term value creation by integrating sustainability, ESG and climate considerations into the firm’s investments, operations and client solutions. The team works across the platform to reduce risk, meet evolving regulatory and client expectations, and develop practical, scalable tools and insights.
As an Associate, Sustainability, you will be responsible for supporting Hamilton Lane’s sustainability and responsible investment activities, with an emphasis on governance, ESG data, and client reporting. In this role, you will work cross-functionally with investment teams, Client Solutions, Legal, Compliance and Technology to help maintain robust ESG processes and respond to client and regulatory requirements.
Your Responsibilities Will Be To:
- Regulation and governance: Manage ESG incident monitoring, including incident review, materiality assessment and working on any related GP engagement. Coordinate inputs and drafting for firm-wide ESG and stewardship disclosures (UNPRI/UK Stewardship Code). Prepare and update sustainability training and reference materials for internal and external audiences.
- Data and analytics: Partner internal functions and clients to design and implement sustainable portfolio solutions, including mapping and adjusting strategies to align with evolving regulatory requirements (for example, transitions between SFDR Article 8/9 classifications). Help administer and analyze the Manager ESG survey, including survey set-up, GP outreach and follow-up and preparation of summary statistics or exhibits.
- Business enablement: Prepare ESG and sustainability responses for RFPs and DDQs, ensuring alignment with Hamilton Lane’s policies, processes and standard wording. Support fundraising where relevant.
Required:
- Approximately 3–5 years of relevant experience in sustainability, ESG, investment management, consulting, or a related analytical field.
- Quantitative and qualitative analytical skills, with proficiency in Excel.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience preparing presentations, memos, or reports for internal and external stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines, with strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Evidenced interest in sustainable finance and relevant regulation (for example, SFDR, stewardship codes, climate-related reporting).
Preferred:
- Experience with one or more of the following: portfolio carbon footprinting, ESG surveys, or ESG ratings/assessments.
- Familiarity with sustainability regulations and reporting frameworks (for example, SFDR, the UK Stewardship Code, PRI, ISSB/TCFD).
- Experience working with GPs, corporates or institutional clients on ESG-related topics or reporting.
