With a reputation for exquisite craftsmanship and timeless design, we combine traditional techniques with modern innovation from our workshop in the heart of Scotland’s capital.
We are now looking for a talented and experienced Senior Goldsmith to join our team. As a Goldsmith here at Hamilton & Inches, you will be based in our Jewellers workshop. Following an extensive renovation in 2020/21, our Jewellers workshop combines long established manufacturing methods with a modern space to encourage creativity and collaboration. You will work closely with our Workshop Manager and within our team of Goldsmiths, Engravers, and Silversmiths in an environment where individuality and talent is celebrated.
The Role
As a Senior Goldsmith, you will bring your expert craftsmanship to our jewellery workshop, playing a key role in repairs, the production of special commissions and creation of new collections. You will work closely with the team and Workshop Manager to ensure the highest standards of quality are achieved for every piece.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out jewellery repairs to Hamilton & Inches’ high standards
- Collaborate with the Workshop Manager and other workshop team members to produce exceptional special commissions
- Demonstrate leadership in projects with key input into design, materials, and production methods for custom work and new collections
- Work from detailed CAD designs or technical sketches
- Meet with customers to discuss complex repairs and bespoke commissions
- Estimate labour and materials for bespoke and repair work
- Mentors and upskills other team members through training and leadership
- Maintain detailed records of work undertaken, accounting for all materials used on jobs
- Ensure quality control processes are followed and all work meets internal specifications and standards
- Adhere to Health & Safety procedures and maintain a clean and safe and well organised workshop environment
- Demonstrate craftsmanship live in-store and represent the brand at select events
- Uphold client confidentiality and represent the Hamilton & Inches brand with professionalism and care
The Ideal Candidate
- Minimum 10 years of bench experience in Goldsmithing preferred
- Experience in setting diamonds and coloured stones essential
- Skilled in working with gold, silver, and platinum
- Confident in repairs, resizing, re-tipping, re-polishing, and restoration of fine jewellery
- Experience with bespoke production and high-value pieces
- Knowledge of diamonds and coloured gemstones
- Familiarity with laser welding and micro-setting preferred
- Ability to produce accurate costings and time estimates
- Strong eye for detail and commitment to excellence
- Collaborative team player, flexible, and works well to deadlines
- Customer-focused with excellent interpersonal and communication skills
