We are a long-established, financially stable GP group. We are hiring an Operations Manager to run the engine room of the business: owning the performance scorecard, holding managers and clinicians to it, driving patient list growth, and in time helping launch a new back-office services company. This is a hands-on operating role reporting directly to the owner. You will own outcomes and do the groundwork that produces them. It is not a strategy or consulting role, and there is no layer between you and the day-to-day work.
For the right person this is a genuine route into a C-suite position within the group.
What you will do
- Own the weekly performance scorecard (up to 1 day per week)
- Run the scorecard end to end and chair the weekly management meeting.
- Use the meeting as a health check on the organisation: identify what is not being done, get it fixed, and escalate or resolve it yourself.
- Coach individual managers and clinicians who are behind, and performance-manage those who do not improve.
- Understand the scorecard well enough to run the data collection yourself if needed, and to recruit and rebuild that function.
- Drive organic growth (1–2 days per week)
- Plan and deliver campaigns and marketing materials to grow patient registrations across our existing surgeries.
- Track results, report on them, and adjust.
- Build the new venture (1–2 days per week, from around month six)
- Work with the owner to launch a new company providing remote back-office services to other GP surgeries.
- Recruit and line-manage the start-up team as it grows.
- By the end of year one you will be balancing three areas: compliance and scorecard delivery, organic growth across the existing sites, and people management in the new business.
Essential requirements
- Line management of 40–50 people currently. We are looking for someone operating at this span of control today, not someone ready to step up to it.
- Degree-level education with strong academic results.
- Strong numeracy and data literacy. You can open a spreadsheet and interrogate it quickly and confidently — pivot tables, formulas, variance analysis, KPI reporting.
- Proven track record delivering complex, multi-strand projects with competing deadlines.
- Experience performance-managing professionals, including people more technically qualified than you.
Desirable, but we will train you
- Experience in NHS primary care, general practice, PCN or healthcare operations.
- Familiarity with CQC compliance, QOF, EMIS or SystmOne.
- Marketing, campaign or patient acquisition experience.
- Start-up or new business set-up experience.
- Healthcare compliance and our internal systems are taught in full. Do not rule yourself out on those.
Who this suits
- An operator rather than a planner. You are comfortable owning the result and doing the work that gets you there.
- Someone who stays steady across multiple competing priorities.
- A credible right hand to a hands-on owner, able to hold senior and clinical colleagues to account.
- Someone who wants the operational grounding that leads to a C-suite role, and is not precious about the day-to-day work that comes first.
What we offer
- Direct access to and mentoring from the owner.
- A defined progression path into a senior leadership role as the group and the new venture grow.
- The autonomy to run the operation your way, against clear measures.
How to apply: Apply through Indeed with your CV. Please include a short note covering the size of the team you manage today and one example of a complex project you delivered end to end.
