Job Description \n L3 Database Administrator - Glasgow - 6 Month Initial Contract - Inside IR35 \n We are seeking an experienced L3 Database Administrator to join a leading UK banking and financial services organisation on a 12-month hybrid contract based in Glasgow (3 days on-site). The role covers database administration across PostgreSQL, Snowflake, and Greenplum, with two sub-focuses: a Snowflake DBA track, and a Greenplum/PostgreSQL DBA track (with Snowflake knowledge also valued). The successful candidate will manage day-to-day database operations, performance tuning, data migrations, and automation across these platforms. \n Key Responsibilities: \n \n Manage day-to-day database provisioning, maintenance, and upgrades in PostgreSQL \n Perform data migrations using gpcopy and other tools, minimising downtime and data loss \n Manage database bloat, leverage statistics for performance optimisation, and use GPTEXT for troubleshooting complex issues \n Leverage Greenplum utilities such as gpload, pxf, and GP Spark for efficient data loading and integration \n Work with Snowflake internals, data lakes, data structures, and data models, including Snowflake modelling (roles, schemas, databases) \n Build data ingestion pipelines using tools such as Informatica or Talend \n Apply Patroni expertise for HADR and streaming replication \n Develop and maintain backup and recovery strategies to ensure data integrity and availability \n Implement monitoring solutions to proactively identify and resolve issues \n Develop automation scripts in Shell, Python, or Ansible to improve operational efficiency \n Ensure database security, compliance, and adherence to best practices \n \n What You Will Ideally Bring: \n \n Extensive hands-on database administration experience across PostgreSQL , Snowflake , and Greenplum \n For Postgres: database provisioning, maintenance, and upgrade experience \n For Greenplum: data migration via gpcopy, performance optimisation using statistics, bloat management, GPTEXT troubleshooting, and experience with gpload/pxf/GP Spark \n For Snowflake: data lake/model design, Snowflake modelling (roles, schemas, databases), and strong SQL/complex query writing \n Scripting expertise in Shell, Python, or Ansible \n Expertise in Patroni for HADR and streaming replication \n Knowledge of ETL processes and data ingestion pipeline tools (Informatica, Talend) desirable \n Cloud computing experience with AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud desirable \n \n Contract Details: \n \n Rate: Β£400 per day Inside IR35 \n Location: Glasgow(Hybrid) \n Duration: 6 months \n
