A leading transport and rail infrastructure company is seeking a skilled Network Engineer with Nokia IP/MPLS expertise to play a key role in a multi-year digital transformation initiative. This is a high-impact project replacing legacy SDH infrastructure with a modern Nokia 7750 MPLS Core, underpinning critical connectivity across the rail network.

The Opportunity

  • Join a long-term (3-year) infrastructure rollout program within one of the UK’s most complex operational environments
  • Deliver next-gen IP/MPLS networks for mission-critical transport infrastructure
  • Take ownership of design, implementation, and configuration of Nokia-based solutions
  • Collaborate with project and field teams to ensure seamless transition from legacy systems

What You'll Do

  • Lead the design and configuration of a Nokia 7750 MPLS core network
  • Replace legacy SDH infrastructure with high-performance IP-based systems
  • Liaise closely with operations and delivery teams to ensure reliable, real-time connectivity
  • Carry out hands-on configuration, documentation, testing, and deployment
  • Travel to East London sites to support implementation and troubleshooting
  • Ensure uptime and redundancy for key systems operating in a safety-critical environment

Key Skills Required

  • Proven experience with Nokia IP/MPLS platforms (especially 7750 Service Routers)
  • Strong understanding of network protocols (OSPF, BGP, MPLS, QoS, etc.)
  • Previous experience replacing SDH/legacy telecoms infrastructure is highly beneficial
  • Hands-on capability for configuration, deployment, and troubleshooting
  • Experience working in transport, rail, or similarly regulated environments is a plus
  • UK driving license preferred due to travel between sites
