This is a senior leadership role for an experienced engineering leader who wants real ownership across Cloud, Security, and Infrastructure, while still retaining technical credibility. You’ll sit at the intersection of engineering execution and executive strategy, leading a multi-disciplinary team of around 12 engineers and managers. The role offers genuine influence over technology direction, governance, and delivery, with the ability to shape how engineering operates as the organisation scales.
This is well suited to someone who has grown through technical roles, understands modern Microsoft cloud environments, and wants to lead teams while remaining close enough to the technology to deploy and guide projects when required. The role is 5 days per week onsite in Maidenhead, working closely with senior leadership to drive consistency, quality, and innovation across engineering.
Responsibilities- Provide strategic leadership across Cloud, Security, and Infrastructure engineering functions.
- Define and execute the long-term engineering strategy aligned to business growth and resilience.
- Lead, mentor, and develop senior engineering leaders and managers.
- Act as a technical authority, bridging hands-on delivery with executive-level decision making.
- Drive engineering excellence through automation, tooling improvements, and best practice adoption.
- Ensure strong governance, compliance, and risk management across engineering operations.
- Partner with the Technical Director and senior stakeholders on roadmap and investment planning.
- Oversee budgets, headcount planning, and resource allocation.
- Champion cloud adoption, secure engineering principles, and operational scalability.
- Maintain the ability to deploy and oversee projects at a technical level when required.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, inclusion, and continuous improvement.
- Proven experience in a senior engineering leadership role (Head of Engineering, Director of Engineering, Head of Technology, or similar).
- Strong technical background across Microsoft Cloud, Security, and Infrastructure.
- Experience leading multi-disciplinary teams in cloud-first or hybrid environments.
- Background in an MSP or large-scale enterprise environment.
- Hands-on understanding of Azure, Microsoft 365, cloud security, modern infrastructure, and automation (CI/CD).
- Strong grasp of IT governance, compliance, and risk management frameworks (e.g. ITIL).
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Demonstrable experience managing budgets, resources, and cross-functional initiatives.
Salary: £75,000 – £85,000 basic salary, depending on experience and location.
