We’re working with a growing technology and infrastructure services business looking to appoint a Head of Datacomms to take ownership of a key delivery function across a portfolio of high-profile commercial estates. This is not a desk-based management role. We’re looking for someone who combines deep technical credibility across structured cabling and fibre infrastructure with the commercial awareness to own delivery, protect margin, manage change, and represent the business confidently with clients, contractors, and senior stakeholders.

The Opportunity

  • You will take ownership of the operational and commercial performance of the datacomms function, with a particular focus on live environments and Day 2 works across occupied, business‑critical estates.
  • Leading structured cabling and fibre delivery across live client environments.
  • Owning Day 2 works, MACs, remedials, upgrades, and change‑controlled activity.
  • Acting as the senior technical authority for complex delivery issues.
  • Overseeing blown fibre systems from route planning through to testing.
  • Setting and maintaining high installation and workmanship standards.
  • Reviewing testing, certification, as‑built documentation, and technical submissions.
  • Managing project cost, margin, variations, and commercial exposure.
  • Supporting estimates, tenders, technical proposals, and new opportunities.
  • Working with JCT and subcontract frameworks across live projects.
  • Leading engineers, site teams, and specialist subcontractors.
  • Building trusted relationships with clients, consultants, and main contractors.
  • Coordinating with adjacent AV, UC, and network infrastructure teams.

What We’re Looking For

  • This role would suit an experienced leader from a structured cabling, datacomms, fibre, or physical network infrastructure background who has progressed beyond pure project delivery and can take genuine ownership of a function.
  • Senior experience across structured cabling and fibre infrastructure.
  • Strong knowledge of blown fibre systems and live environment delivery.
  • Commercial ownership across cost, margin, variations, and change.
  • Understanding of construction and subcontract mechanisms, ideally JCT.
  • Experience leading technical teams and subcontract delivery.
  • Strong client‑facing presence at senior stakeholder level.
  • Knowledge of relevant cabling and installation standards.
  • Aware of adjacent AV, UC, and enterprise network environments.

Desired Accreditations

  • Manufacturer accreditations across platforms such as Excel, CommScope, or Panduit would be advantageous, alongside fibre testing and certification credentials.

Why Consider It?

This is a genuine opportunity to take ownership of an established technical function rather than simply inherit a project portfolio. The business is looking for someone who can raise standards, strengthen commercial performance, develop the team, and shape how the function evolves over the coming years. For the right individual, there is a clear pathway toward a Director‑level position around the £90,000 mark.

If you’re currently operating as a Head of Datacomms, Structured Cabling Manager, Contracts Manager, Infrastructure Delivery Manager, Cabling Operations Manager, Technical Services Manager, or senior delivery leader within this space, I’d be keen to speak.
