We are recruiting for an experienced Network Manager to lead a six-person network and voice engineering team within a large, business-critical public-sector environment.
This is not a purely managerial position.
The organisation is looking for someone who remains technically credible at a senior level, understands the infrastructure their engineers are supporting and can provide technical direction when complex incidents or projects require escalation.
You will have responsibility across the organisation's data networking, voice, security and cloud-connected infrastructure, while leading a team covering both network and voice engineering.
The Role
- Lead a team of six network and voice engineers
- Provide technical leadership across the network estate
- Manage both data and voice engineering functions
- Support and develop engineers across Levels 3 and 4
- Provide senior escalation for complex infrastructure issues
- Maintain operational resilience across critical services
- Oversee infrastructure upgrades and technical projects
- Work with internal teams, suppliers and technology partners
- Manage workload, priorities and engineering resources
- Maintain technical standards across the environment
- Participate in a 1-in-4 on-call rota
- Remain technically engaged rather than purely managerial

- Routing and switching
- SD-WAN

- Excellent LAN and WAN knowledge
- Strong routing and switching fundamentals
- Good understanding of enterprise firewalls
- Experience across network security technologies

You do not need to hold a long list of certifications. The hiring manager is far more interested in demonstrable technical knowledge, engineering credibility and the ability to lead experienced technical staff.
Package
- Approximately Β£4,000 annual on-call allowance
- 1-in-4 on-call rota
- 2 to 3 days per week in Gloucester
The position will require eligibility for security clearance. Existing SC clearance would be advantageous but is not essential.
