Contracting role based in Glasgow (Hybrid, 3 days in office) for a 12-month engagement within the financial services sector. You will provide expert-level database administration across Snowflake, Greenplum, and PostgreSQL environments, covering performance tuning, data migrations, backup and recovery, security, and automation - supporting a leading global financial institution.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Administer and maintain PostgreSQL, Snowflake, and Greenplum databases across provisioning, upgrades, and day-to-day operations.
  • Manage Greenplum data migrations using gpcopy, minimising downtime and data loss, and leverage gpload, pxf, and GP Spark for efficient data loading and integration.
  • Manage database bloat and utilise GPTEXT for troubleshooting complex Greenplum issues, leveraging statistics for performance optimisation.
  • Design and manage Snowflake architecture including data lakes, data structures, roles, schemas, and databases.

What You Will Ideally Bring:

  • Extensive hands-on DBA experience across PostgreSQL, Snowflake, and Greenplum - essential.
  • Strong SQL skills including complex query writing and performance tuning across Snowflake and PostgreSQL.
  • Proven expertise in Patroni for HADR and streaming replication.
  • Solid Scripting ability in Shell, Python, and/or Ansible for database automation.
  • Experience with Greenplum utilities - gpload, pxf, GP Spark, gpcopy, and GPTEXT.
  • Knowledge of ETL processes and data ingestion pipeline tools such as Informatica or Talend - preferred.
  • Experience handling structured and unstructured data formats - JSON, XML, CSV.
  • Cloud computing experience across AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud - advantageous.
