This company is seeking a Head of Datacomms to lead the operational and commercial performance of its datacomms function across a portfolio of high-profile commercial estates.

This hands-on leadership role combines technical expertise in structured cabling and fibre infrastructure with responsibility for project delivery, commercial performance, client relationships, and live operational environments.

Responsibilities

  • Leading structured cabling and fibre delivery across live client environments
  • Owning Day 2 works, MACs, remedials, upgrades, and change-controlled activity
  • Acting as the senior technical authority for complex delivery issues
  • Overseeing blown fibre systems from route planning through to testing
  • Setting and maintaining high installation and workmanship standards
  • Reviewing testing, certification, as-built documentation, and technical submissions
  • Managing project cost, margin, variations, and commercial exposure
  • Supporting estimates, tenders, technical proposals, and new opportunities
  • Working with JCT and subcontract frameworks across live projects
  • Leading engineers, site teams, and specialist subcontractors
  • Building trusted relationships with clients, consultants, and main contractors
  • Coordinating with adjacent AV, UC, and network infrastructure teams

Skills/Must Have

  • This role would suit an experienced leader from a structured cabling, datacomms, fibre, or physical network infrastructure background who has progressed beyond pure project delivery and can take genuine ownership of a function.
  • Senior experience across structured cabling and fibre infrastructure
  • Strong knowledge of blown fibre systems and live environment delivery
  • Commercial ownership across cost, margin, variations, and change
  • Understanding of construction and subcontract mechanisms, ideally JCT
  • Experience leading technical teams and subcontract delivery
  • Strong client-facing presence at senior stakeholder level
  • Knowledge of relevant cabling and installation standards
  • Awareness of adjacent AV, UC, and enterprise network environments
  • Essential Accreditations SMSTS & CNIDP
  • Manufacturer accreditations across platforms such as Excel, Comm Scope, or Panduit would be advantageous, alongside fibre testing and certification credentials.

Benefits

  • For the right individual, there is a clear pathway toward a Director-level position around the £90,000 mark.

Salary

  • The successful candidate will have a clear opportunity to progress into a Director-level role, with earning potential of around £90,000.
