Responsibilities- Ensure the smooth day-to-day operation of the network and its interconnections
- Implement and support network monitoring tools and automation solutions to drive efficiency
- Proactively monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve complex network issues; perform root cause analysis and produce post-incident reviews
- Validate and review network designs and proposed changes, ensuring scalability, performance, and resilience
- Collaborate with the design authority on roadmap development and change management
- Lead capacity planning to ensure infrastructure meets customer activation and service resilience demands
- Act as a technical mentor, providing training, guidance, and knowledge sharing within the engineering team
- Support vendor engagement, hardware/software procurement, and continuous network improvement projects
- Develop and maintain clear technical documentation, diagrams, and operational procedures
- Participate in the 24/7 on-call rota, supporting incident response and field engineering teams
- Deputise for the Network Operations Manager when required
- Champion a customer-first approach, driving service excellence and continuous improvement
- Strong customer focus and commitment to service quality
- Proven experience within an ISP, altnet, or data centre environment
- Deep technical expertise in network infrastructure, hardware, and software, including staging, testing, and troubleshooting
- Solid understanding of optical Ethernet, IP transmission, and routing protocols (e.g. ISIS, BGP)
- Good knowledge of FTTH optical fibre technologies and performance considerations
- Familiarity with major network vendors and their platforms
- Experience using automation tools to streamline operational processes
- Ability to explain complex technical topics clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Leadership and mentoring skills, with a track record of supporting engineering teams
- Proactive, collaborative, and able to work independently when required
- Desirable: CCNA, CCNP, or CCIE (or equivalent) certification
