This company is looking for an experienced Virtualisation Engineer to join a secure programme in Corsham on a contract basis. The role focuses on designing, building, and automating VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) platforms within a secure or regulated environment, covering the full lifecycle from design and integration through to automation and operational handover.

Responsibilities

  • Design, deploy, and manage enterprise virtualisation platforms based on VMware VCF
  • Implement and manage core VCF components including vSphere, NSX, vSAN, VCF Operations, VPC, and VKS
  • Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions to enable automated, repeatable platform deployments
  • Build API-driven automation for provisioning, configuration, and life cycle management
  • Support life cycle management of platforms including build, upgrade, patching, and scaling
  • Integrate virtualisation platforms with enterprise services including networking, DNS, identity, and DevOps toolchains
  • Translate architectural designs into automated, deployable solutions aligned to programme standards
  • Ensure solutions align with secure-by-design principles and organisational security requirements
  • Produce key artefacts including LLDs, build guides, and runbooks
  • Support system integration, testing, and operational handover
  • Conduct change impact assessments and support risk identification
  • Contribute to automation, standardisation, and continuous improvement of platform capabilities

Skills/Must Have

  • Strong experience with VMware virtualisation platforms including vSphere, ESXi, and vCenter (essential)
  • Experience with VMware Cloud Foundation and SDDC components including NSX, vSAN, and VCF Operations (essential)
  • Strong automation experience using tools such as PowerCLI, Terraform, Ansible, or SaltStack (essential)
  • Experience developing Infrastructure as Code and API-driven automation solutions
  • Good understanding of enterprise networking and underpinning services including DNS and load balancing
  • Experience integrating platforms with DevOps toolchains and CI/CD pipelines
  • Knowledge of platform security, hardening best practices, and delivery within secure or regulated environments
  • Ability to produce high-quality technical documentation including LLDs, build guides, and runbooks
  • Active DV Clearance (essential - non-negotiable)

Desirable: experience with Kubernetes on VCF (VKS) or container platforms, knowledge of hybrid cloud and multi-platform environments, familiarity with GitOps approaches, experience with backup and disaster recovery solutions, Agile delivery experience, and relevant certifications such as VCP, VCAP, or VMware Cloud Foundation Specialist.
