A top-tier consultancy has partnered with a market-leading UK utilities organisation to deliver critical infrastructure support—and is now seeking a CNI Support Engineer on a 6-month rolling contract. This role is Inside IR35 and requires a minimum of three days per week onsite. Due to the nature of the work, active SC Clearance is essential.
Responsibilities:
- Provide day-to-day support for Linux systems, including monitoring, performance tuning, system upgrades, and troubleshooting OS-related issues.
- Support and maintain Windows operating systems, ensuring stability, applying updates, managing users and access rights, and resolving technical issues.
- Perform system patching across Linux and Windows environments using tools such as YUM, ensuring all systems remain secure and up to date.
- Manage and support the configuration and deployment of endpoint security tools, ensuring compliance with internal and external security standards.
- Administer and troubleshoot a range of networking protocols and services including TCP/IP, NFS, NTP, SMTP, DNS, DHCP, FTP, Telnet, ensuring reliable connectivity and system integration.
Skills/Must have:
- Strong hands-on experience in Linux system administration, including system monitoring, user and group management, disk partitioning, Shell Scripting, and managing services and daemons.
- Proficient in using core Linux tools and commands for troubleshooting and system performance tuning.
- Good working knowledge of Windows operating systems, including system configuration, user access controls, registry management, and patch updates.
- Able to troubleshoot Windows-based issues and support integration in mixed OS environments.
- Experience in applying system patches and updates using tools like YUM, with the ability to configure repositories and manage dependencies effectively.
- Strong understanding of endpoint security solutions, with experience in deploying and configuring security agents and tools across both Linux and Windows platforms.
- Good technical knowledge of networking protocols and services, including TCP/IP, NFS, NTP, SMTP, DNS, DHCP, FTP, Telnet, with practical experience in configuring and supporting SAMBA shares and Apache Web Servers in enterprise environments.
