A leading managed security services provider is looking for a Senior Security Engineer (Team Leader) to lead the technical and people side of a dedicated security team supporting a client in a regulated industry. This isn't a hands-off management role — you'll combine platform engineering ownership with technical leadership, acting as the primary escalation point for complex incidents and cross-platform issues, with a strong Microsoft Sentinel and Defender focus.

Why this role stands out:

  • Genuine ownership of platform architecture and engineering standards across a modern Microsoft-centric security stack
  • Blend of hands-on engineering and people leadership — you're never far from the tools, but you're shaping the team's direction
  • High-visibility role bridging analysts, engineering, and client security leadership in a regulated environment

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as technical lead and primary escalation point for complex/major incidents and cross-platform issues
  • Line manage the Senior Security Engineer and Senior Security Analyst team, including performance reviews and development
  • Own architecture, configuration and lifecycle management across SIEM (Sentinel), XDR/EDR (Defender), vulnerability management (Qualys), DLP (Purview), cloud security (Netskope) and more
  • Lead SOAR automation and LogicApps implementation to improve response efficiency
  • Support detection tuning, threat hunting, and response playbook development with the 24/7 analyst team
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory frameworks (ISO 27001, NIST, CIS Controls, FCA, DORA)
  • Own engineering documentation, runbooks and standards
  • Act as senior engineering contact for the client's SOC provider

Skills/Must Have:

  • Significant hands-on security engineering experience with proven technical leadership
  • Experience line managing technical staff, including performance reviews and development planning
  • Deep hands-on experience with the Microsoft Defender stack and Microsoft Sentinel (SIEM/SOAR, KQL, LogicApps)
  • Experience with vulnerability management, DLP/compliance and cloud security tooling
  • Strong scripting/automation skills (PowerShell, Python or Bash)
  • Experience working in regulated environments (financial services, government, CNI)
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills, including presenting to senior contacts, auditors and governance teams
  • May be required to hold or obtain UK NPPV and/or SC clearance
  • Degree educated or equivalent industry experience

Benefits:

  • Extensive, tailorable benefits package including matching pension, healthcare, insurance and dental
  • Discounted gyms and app-supported benefit access
  • Paid charity leave and dedicated employee support programme
  • Genuine investment in ongoing training (min. 40 hours/year) and professional development
