Principal Consultant – ICT & Security (Buildings & Infrastructure)

A leading built environment consultancy is looking for a Principal Consultant to join its Buildings & Infrastructure practice, sitting within a small specialist ICT & Security team inside a wider multidisciplinary Cities & Places group.

The team works horizontally across water, transport, cities, defence and critical infrastructure.

This is a technical role, taking ownership of complex ICT and security design across major infrastructure projects β€” with scope to grow into mentoring and technical management as the practice expands.

Responsibilities

  • Lead technical design and delivery of ICT and security solutions across building and infrastructure projects, feasibility through to handover (RIBA stages)
  • Provide technical oversight for secure communications and building ICT systems
  • Coordinate and integrate security solutions across complex infrastructure environments
  • Work across multidisciplinary teams β€” architecture, engineering, infrastructure
  • Mentor junior team members, maintaining technical quality and delivery standards
  • Prepare technical reports, specifications and design outputs
  • Support project work across defence, critical infrastructure, water and transport (rail excluded where possible)
  • Input into proposals and client briefs from a technical standpoint as needed

Must Have

  • Experience with ICT systems for buildings and infrastructure environments
  • Strong background in telecommunications, building services or infrastructure engineering design
  • Experience in secure environments (defence or critical infrastructure)
  • Eligible for UK Security Clearance (or current/previous SC)
  • Strong grasp of integrated building ICT and security systems
  • Experience coordinating multidisciplinary design teams
  • Able to produce technical documentation β€” reports, specifications, design outputs

Systems knowledge

  • Data communications and networking
  • Secure/non-secure communications systems
  • Structured cabling and telecoms infrastructure
  • CCTV and video surveillance
  • Access control and intruder detection
  • Perimeter and physical security (barriers, fencing, HVM)
  • Datacentre (Not required by advantageous)

Also

  • Degree qualified (or equivalent experience) in a relevant discipline
  • Professional membership (or working towards) desirable
  • Good communication skills for working across technical and multidisciplinary teams
