This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced finance professional to step into a key leadership role within an established and highly respected charity. Reporting directly to the Director of Finance & Resources, you’ll lead the day-to-day finance function while playing an important role in the organisation’s wider financial strategy. This is a broad position where you’ll combine strong technical finance skills with leadership, commercial awareness and the ability to work closely with colleagues across the organisation. The Opportunity As Head of Finance, you’ll take responsibility for ensuring the organisation has robust financial management, accurate reporting and strong financial controls in place. You’ll work closely with the Director of Finance & Resources, senior leadership team and Board of Trustees, providing the financial information and insight they need to make informed decisions. You’ll also act as Deputy to the Director of Finance & Resources on financial matters. It’s a role with plenty of variety and influence, covering everything from budgeting and forecasting through to audit, cash flow, statutory compliance and developing the finance team. What You’ll Be Doing You’ll lead the finance function and oversee budgeting, forecasting, management accounts, cash flow, treasury and financial reporting. Working collaboratively across the organisation, you’ll help managers understand their financial performance and make the best use of resources. You’ll monitor income and expenditure, restricted and designated funds and reserves, identifying risks and opportunities and ensuring appropriate action is taken. You’ll also lead the annual budgeting and reforecasting processes, take primary responsibility for the statutory audit and annual report, and ensure compliance across areas including Charity Commission requirements, Companies House, HMRC, VAT, Gift Aid, payroll and pensions. Alongside this, you’ll lead and develop the Finance team, creating a supportive environment with clear objectives, high standards and a focus on continuous improvement. A strong understanding of charity finance, including restricted funds, reserves, Gift Aid, VAT, payroll, audit, statutory accounts and Charity SORP requirements is important. Experience within a charity, healthcare or similarly complex multi-income-stream organisation would be particularly valuable. Just as importantly, you’ll be someone who can communicate financial information clearly, build strong relationships and work collaboratively with people at all levels.
