We are seeking an experienced and proactive Financial Controller (reporting) to join our team on a permanent basis. This is a key role within the finance function, offering scope for growth and flexibility as the business continues to evolve. What you’ll be doing:
At Hamberley, we believe that our residents deserve something ‘Extra Special, Every Day’. This role is ideal for a qualified accountant, including strong candidates making a first move from practice. Some of the things you’ll do in the role include:
- Financial & statutory reporting - Month-end close to a tight timetable; high-quality consolidated management accounts and KPI pack. Statutory accounts preparation (FRS 102 / IFRS as applicable), technical accounting papers, and compliance with accounting standards and company law. Group consolidation, intercompany, journals, and balance sheet reconciliations with clear ownership and controls.
- Budgeting, forecasting & performance - Lead the annual budget and quarterly rolling forecasts; align assumptions with operational drivers. Clear variance analysis and commentary that explains performance vs plan and identifies actions. Board-ready reporting with trend views, cohort analysis, cash and covenant visibility.
- Audit & financial control - Plan and run the year-end audit; own the deliverables list, timetables, and issue resolution. Strengthen the control environment: close calendar, reconciliations, policies, and accounting manuals. Stewardship of working capital, cash flow forecasting, and treasury routines.
- Systems, data & process improvement - Improve reporting quality and speed through better processes, automation, and data discipline. Own finance master data and chart of accounts integrity; partner with IT on ERP/reporting tools.
- Leadership & partnering - Manage and develop a small reporting team; set high standards and clear ownership. Work closely with operational leaders to translate numbers into actions that drive EBITDARM and cash.
About You:
- Qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA).
- First move from practice or industry FC/reporting lead experience welcome.
- Proven experience as a Financial Controller or similar role such as a first move from practice.
- Strong technical grounding in FRS 102/IFRS, consolidation, and audit file preparation.
- Strong knowledge of financial and accounting principles and practices.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Proficient in financial software and Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills - be comfortable operating with senior stakeholders and challenging constructively.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively.
