JOB OVERVIEW

An Engineering Technician engages in the technical and developmental facets of engineering projects. They primarily support R&D engineers by utilizing their experience, technical skills, and scientific knowledge to conduct research, build prototypes, and assist in the creation, testing, and troubleshooting of engineering projects. This role often involves working in a lab or on-site with engineers.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist R&D engineers in developing system layouts and developing new products and equipment used in manufacture.
  • Build and test prototypes using various tools and materials.
  • Conduct experiments, collect data, and communicate technical information to engineers clearly and effectively.
  • Prepare build instructions, technical reports, diagrams, and manuals for engineering projects.

KEY INTERACTIONS

Principally Research and Development but, with additional involvement with quality assurance and others as projects require/progress.

LEADERSHIP EXPECTATIONS

Should demonstrate proficiency in time management, ensuring that tasks are completed on time. Additionally, they are responsible for maintaining high standards of quality and safety, while also being adaptable to changing project requirements and collaborating with the wider team.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

NVQ in engineering based subject or other relevant technical certifications or training and has proactively engaged in ongoing learning, industry changes and development.

SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED

  • Demonstrates teamwork and collaborates with wider team.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Communicates technical information to engineers and other team members.
  • Strong ability to build and test prototypes.
  • Awareness and adherence to health and safety standards.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

Previous experience in a similar role, ideally in the photonics industry.

TRAVEL EXPECTATIONS

Up 5% annually.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Business English is required.
