Halton Home Improvement Agency (HIA) helps people with disabilities make their homes safer and more accessible by supporting them through the Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) process. Acting on behalf of clients, the Agency manages every stage — from initial assessment to completion — ensuring all work meets professional recommendations and legal standards. Once a referral is received from an Occupational Therapist or Community Care Worker, the Agency handles the full adaptation process: drawing plans, securing permissions, obtaining quotes, submitting grant applications, appointing contractors, supervising the work, and arranging payment on completion. The Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) is a means-tested fund to help cover the cost of essential home adaptations — such as ramps, widened doorways, accessible bathrooms, lifts, or adapted kitchens — enabling greater independence at home. Extensions are only approved when no other options to adapt within the footprint of the property are feasible.
Your Contributions:
- To carry out surveys, draft specifications and contract drawings and prepare necessary tender documentation for HIA contracts liaising closely with the team’s Grant Officer & Project Leader to ensure tendered works are eligible for grant aid and offer value for money.
- To undertake dwelling surveys and liaise with the team’s Occupational Therapists and Community Care Workers to determine the most effective way of adapting properties to meet the needs of people with disabilities.
- To undertake supervision of works on site, liaising with contractors to ensure quality of work.
Our Offer:
- A generous annual holiday allowance starting at 34 days per year (including bank holidays), increasing with long service with the option to purchase an additional four-days of unpaid leave for our Annual Christmas Closedown.
- Membership of our defined benefit, salary-linked Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) with generous employer contributions.
- 3 x Salary Life Cover via Local Government Pension Scheme.
- Investment in your personal development.
- Free Car Parking at HBC sites.
- Extensive employee benefits platform including discounted shopping, car leasing, gym memberships, wellbeing hub and Employee Assistance Programme.
