The Opportunity
We are recruiting for a Plant Maintenance Technician to join an established family business providing indoor planting and maintenance services to commercial clients across the Midlands and surrounding regions.
This is an ongoing temporary position, paying £12.71 per hour plus holiday pay (£14.24 per hour including holiday pay), with the possibility of becoming permanent for the right candidate.
The role involves travelling to commercial client sites, following a planned three-week maintenance rota to care for indoor plants and ensure displays remain healthy, attractive and well presented.
This opportunity would suit someone with a background in horticulture who is looking to develop their experience in indoor plant maintenance. The client is happy to consider candidates with less experience, provided they have some practical horticultural knowledge and a willingness to learn.
Training will be provided to help the successful candidate develop their plant maintenance skills and become confident managing client visits independently.
This is also a client-facing position, with visits to professional corporate environments, including businesses within the finance and legal sectors. We're looking for someone who is personable, professional and comfortable communicating with clients.
You'll largely manage your own working day and client visits following training, so reliability, organisation and the ability to work independently are important.
A company van will be provided, and the position will involve one overnight stay per week.
Key Responsibilities
- Visit commercial client sites in line with a planned three-week maintenance rota.
- Water, feed, clean and prune indoor plants.
- Monitor plants for signs of pests, disease and other plant health issues.
- Ensure indoor plants and displays are maintained to a consistently high standard.
- Build positive, professional relationships with clients and respond to routine queries.
- Manage daily schedules and client visits independently following training.
- Use a tablet to follow schedules and record completed work.
- Attend a Monday morning meeting in Leeds to replenish stock for the company van.
- Travel across the designated territory, including one overnight stay per week.
- Follow relevant Health & Safety procedures when working at client premises.
Requirements
- Some practical horticultural experience, which could include gardening, plant maintenance, nursery work or other horticultural environments.
- An interest in developing knowledge of indoor plants and their care.
- A horticultural qualification would be beneficial but is not essential.
- Confident communicating with clients in professional working environments.
- Comfortable working independently and managing a mobile schedule following training.
- Able to use a tablet for scheduling and reporting.
- Willing and able to travel across the designated territory, including one overnight stay per week.
- Flexible with working hours when required by client sites.
Skills & Qualities
- Friendly, personable and approachable.
- Professional and presentable when visiting clients.
- Reliable, punctual and self-motivated.
- Organised, with good time-management skills.
- Practical, with excellent attention to detail.
- Positive attitude and willingness to develop horticultural skills.
- Able to recognise potential plant health issues with appropriate training.
- Flexible and adaptable to changing client requirements.
- Comfortable building positive relationships with clients.
Working Hours
The usual working hours are 7.00am to 4.00pm, with a 30-minute break.
Some client sites may require a 6.00am start, and finish times may vary depending on the work scheduled for that day, so flexibility is required.
Location & Travel
This is a mobile position covering the Midlands and surrounding regions, ideally suited to someone based around Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham, Nottingham, Leicester or along the M1 corridor.
Travel between commercial client sites will form a significant part of the role, and one overnight stay per week will be required.
The successful candidate will also attend a Monday morning meeting in Leeds, where stock for the company van will be replenished.
A company van will be provided for work-related travel.
What's On Offer
- £12.71 per hour plus holiday pay, equivalent to £14.24 per hour including holiday pay.
- Ongoing temporary, full-time position.
- Possibility of becoming permanent for the right candidate.
- Training provided to develop indoor plant maintenance skills.
- Company van provided.
- Planned three-week maintenance rota.
- Varied commercial client environments.
- Independent mobile working following training.
- Opportunity to join an established family business.
