Senior Business Development Manager – Specialist Logistics

Aldershot | Hybrid + UK Travel

Permanent | Full-time

Are you an experienced Business Development professional who thrives in a consultative, solutions-led sales environment?

This is an exciting opportunity to join a specialist logistics business at a key stage of growth, taking ownership of developing new business while also growing a portfolio of existing and lapsed accounts.

You'll have the autonomy to develop your market, build meaningful relationships and identify where there is a genuine commercial opportunity. Working directly with the Managing Director, you'll be trusted to manage opportunities from initial prospecting and discovery through to solution development, proposal, negotiation and successful handover.

The business provides specialist transport, handling, storage and installation solutions for high-value, fragile and business-critical technology, supporting customers across sectors including medical and scientific equipment, data centres, advanced manufacturing, defence, telecommunications and technology.

The role

You'll have a broad commercial remit, with approximately 50% focused on winning new business and 50% on developing existing and lapsed accounts.

You'll be responsible for:

  • Building and developing your own target market and new business pipeline
  • Prospecting and opening relationships with senior decision-makers
  • Developing existing accounts and re-engaging lapsed customers
  • Running consultative discovery conversations to understand operational requirements
  • Working with internal operational and project teams to develop tailored solutions
  • Attending customer meetings and site visits
  • Preparing and coordinating proposals, presentations, tenders and pricing
  • Negotiating commercially viable solutions while protecting margin
  • Developing project opportunities into longer-term, repeat customer relationships
  • Managing your pipeline, CRM and sales forecast
  • Taking ownership of opportunities from initial conversation through to commercial agreement and handover

The sales process is genuinely consultative. You'll need to understand the customer's equipment, site, operational requirements and risks before recommending the right solution. Pasted text

About you

We're looking for an established B2B salesperson who enjoys having ownership and autonomy rather than being micromanaged.

You'll ideally bring:

  • A strong track record of winning new B2B business
  • Consultative, solutions-led sales experience
  • Experience developing and growing key accounts
  • Confidence generating your own opportunities through proactive prospecting
  • Strong relationship-building skills at senior and operational levels
  • Experience managing longer or more complex sales cycles
  • Commercial confidence around pricing, margin and negotiation
  • Experience producing proposals and presenting solutions to customers
  • Strong pipeline management and forecasting skills
  • Full UK driving licence and flexibility to travel

Experience within specialist logistics, technical services, capital equipment, medical technology, engineering, manufacturing or another complex service-led environment would be particularly relevant, although the ability to understand a customer's requirements and sell a tailored solution is more important than coming from one specific sector. This is an opportunity to take on a highly autonomous senior sales role with significant growth potential.

You'll work closely with the Managing Director while having personal ownership of your pipeline, target accounts and commercial results. The business is entering its next stage of growth and investment, creating an opportunity for the successful person to make a genuine commercial impact.
