Duties and Responsibilities

The Sector finance team comprises the SCFO, a Sector Finance Director (SFD) and SFA and works closely with other Sector functional leaders, including the Sector IT Manager. This team works closely with the other members of the Sector to support the Sector’s pursuit of acquisitions and the businesses’ organic growth. The SFA will need to be proactive, analytical, self-motivated, a clear communicator and be comfortable developing and implementing solutions. The SFA should have a strong attention to detail, should be able to manage a number of priorities concurrently and should be able to effectively deliver strong results and high-quality work under pressure. Furthermore, the SFA should demonstrate a strong commitment to building effective relationships with Operating Companies, Sector teams and Group functions. The SFA should also be expected to travel to Operating Companies as required.

Specifically, the SFA will support the Sector through:

  • Reporting and forecasting
    • Own sector reporting, data, analysis and insights
    • Lead coordination of the monthly sector financial forecasting process and collaborate with finance teams across operating companies as well as Group Finance to keep it robust and accurate
    • Deliver recurring (monthly and weekly) sector financial reports and commentary on a timely basis and evolve them to always stay relevant and impactful
    • Support the monthly sector staircase process and participate in meeting with the Sector Chief Executive, SCFO and SFD
    • Analyse trends in the businesses and the overall sector, including all areas of revenue, cost of sales, expenses, ROCE, working capital and capital expenditure
    • Work closely with the SFD to identify performance drivers, the “why” behind the “what”, and opportunities for improvement through the conducted analysis
    • Oversee and manage the continuous development of budgeting, financial forecasting, analysis, and data modelling tools.
    • Support with HY and YE deliverables including AR workpaper, IR questionnaire and impairment reviews - acquired intangibles and investment
    • Coordinate the annual budgeting and strategy processes, including the preparation, review, and consolidation across the portfolio to ensure alignment across the sector
    • Work with the SFD and Group Finance to develop best in class FP&A reporting and technology to support Group, Sector and business units.
    • Support the development, deployment and monitoring of sector-wide KPIs and performance measures to drive improved decision-making and business performance
    • Support the continuous improvement of our consolidation system, Tagetik, by participating in testing and implementation phases, ensuring seamless integration and functionality for financial processes
    • Prepare the finance presentations and ad-hoc analyses for Sector meetings
    • Write monthly finance reports
  • Compliance and controls
    • Support the SCFO and operating company FD’s with the oversight and protection of assets and financial integrity of the sector businesses
    • Help ensure that the operating companies have properly maintained books and records in accordance with IAS and Group accounting standards
    • Assist in the development and implementation of financial policies, procedures, and best practices
    • Undertake Peer reviews as needed
  • Acquisitions and investments
    • Support with review of VMs and TPs and support with financial analysis
    • As required, participate and/or lead in the financial due diligence and financial integration of acquired businesses
  • Talent
    • Build strong relationships with finance colleagues across Halma, including other SFAs, Operating Company Financial Controllers, Finance Managers and FP&A leaders
    • Support the SCFO and SFD with the induction of new FDs across the companies, especially around reporting and forecasting
    • Help identify potential improvement initiatives (system / process / cost) that benefit the Sector and its companies

Qualifications, Education and Experience

  • Relevant university degree
  • A qualified accountant (CPA, ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
  • Minimum of 5 years’ post qualified experience
  • High level of proficiency in MS Office, including advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills
  • Experience in reporting multi-currency entities consolidation and ideally some experience working with Tagetik
  • Experience in data modelling and familiarity with Bl tools, ideally Power Bl
