Halliday Marx are working exclusively with a UK Distributor – a leader in their field - to hire their new Financial Controller.
Salary: £80,000 to £110,000 (DOE)
Hybrid: 3-4 days in
The role could be based in Somerset, Manchester, or Glasgow area. 3-4 days in the office ideally with a willingness to occasionally travel to the other locations.
Managing a small team of 3, this role is perfectly suited to an FC or FD with experience of SMEs looking for their next challenge and helping this company through their next stage of growth. The role combines hands-on leadership of a finance and HR function with a mandate to deliver wider business improvement and lead on reporting against the strategic plan to the board.
Key responsibilities:
- Finance Operations: Support and develop the finance team of 3 (clerical / administrative level).
- Full monthly FP&A including production of monthly management accounts pack with variance analysis.
- Day to day finance operations (including HMRC filings, supplier payments, balance sheet recs, overseeing business controls).
- Ownership of budgeting and forecasting.
- Ownership of integrated financial model.
- Liaise with auditors for year-end accounts.
- Monitor cash.
- HR Leadership: Support functional areas with recruitment: advertising positions, interviewing, preparing offer letters & contracts.
- Deal with any HR correspondence.
- Ensure any disciplinary procedures follow the legislation & any other HR related duties.
- IT and Business Improvement: Responsibility for the business’ IT strategy.
- Identify and deliver business process improvements extending beyond finance function.
- Strategic: Develop reporting aligned with strategic plan.
- Monitor progress against plan.
- Provide analytical decision support to the senior management and Board.
As Financial Controller, you will be a qualified accountant who has previously performed at a similar level in an SME.
Qualifications:
- Qualified accountant (CIMA/ACCA/ACA).
- Hands-on financial management experience at an SME.
- IT skills that go beyond MS office (e.g. dashboard creation, vendor selection, integration oversight).
- Demonstrable experience beyond finance operations in wider operational development and strategic improvement.
