Overview
In this role you lead on-site Logging-While-Drilling (LWD) operations, ensuring accurate data delivery and high service quality for client projects. You act as the technical advisor on LWD topics, coordinate BHA planning and mud hydraulics, and supervise equipment readiness. You’ll train and mentor junior staff, collaborate with directional drillers and client representatives, and drive performance improvements. This field position offers hands-on problem solving and direct client impact.
Responsibilities
- Supervise LWD process on-site and ensure data quality and timely delivery
- Serve as lead engineer on most jobs and provide technical consultation to clients
- Test tools and equipment before, during, and after jobs
- Assemble BHA according to plan with correct torque and handling
- Coordinate with Directional Driller to ensure BHA compatibility and correct tool references
- Complete forms, databases and reports (e.g., EJCS, FAD/CPI) accurately
- Maintain LWD data generation, surveys, basic geosteering and QC
- Ensure equipment, personnel, and resources are available for service
- Prepare daily LWD report and share with client site teams and MWD coordinator
- Contribute to performance improvement initiatives and training of junior personnel
- Commit to safety and compliance with on/offshore certificates
- Submit accurate daily cost for LWD services when applicable
- Foster teamwork across all personnel involved in service delivery
Key requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent plus minimum two years of field experience in LWD
- Bachelor's Degree in a STEM discipline is preferred
- Proficiency with LWD software and ability to advise client representatives
- Ability to read and interpret formation logs and directional survey data
- Good communication, arithmetic, data entry and recording skills
- Ability to test and troubleshoot tools; on-site safety certifications
- Field location experience (onshore/offshore) and ability to work in UK Aberdeen location
