One Year Fixed Term (September 2026 – August 2027) Edgbaston, Birmingham

Actual Annual Salary: £24,200 per annum

Hours: 40 hrs per week (08:30 -17:00, with a 30-minute unpaid break) with flexibility to work beyond 17:00 to support with fixtures.

Working Weeks: 41 weeks per year (35 term time weeks including INSET days, plus 6 additional weeks to support with holiday club).

The Role

We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and confident Sports Assistant keen to support children in their physical education. Under the direction of the Head of PE, Sports & Physical Wellbeing, you will provide support to the Sports and PE Department in the delivery of all aspects of the PE and games curriculum including assisting with lessons; clubs; practices and fixtures for Year 1 to 9 pupils.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a genuine passion about sports and sports coaching, looking to gain relevant experience either prior or post completing higher education. The post would be particularly appropriate for a candidate who is contemplating a career in an education setting or as a sports coach.

With a positive and flexible disposition and nurturing approach to supporting children’s learning, the successful candidate will be child focused, professional and approachable with a strong focus on team work and a willingness to get involved and support the wider school as required.

Safeguarding knowledge, the ability to follow instructions, and effective communication with both children and colleagues are all essential and will be assessed during interview.

The Person

The key skills and qualities of the role are:

  • An enthusiasm for sports, with an encouraging and motivational approach to learning
  • Able to demonstrate a genuine passion for sports and sporting activities, with an interest in sports coaching
  • Previous experience working with children (this may include volunteering)
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to establish rapport with pupils, parents and colleagues
  • A positive, flexible and supportive team member
  • In possession of a valid Paediatric First Aid qualification or willingness to obtain via the School
  • A willingness to support and engage in the whole life of the School
  • Holds a valid sports / sports coaching qualification or be working towards one
  • A relevant childcare related qualification would be advantageous but not essential
