The Role Hall Conservation Ltd is seeking an experienced Senior Conservator with specialist expertise in metals, sculpture, and decorative surfaces to join our dynamic and growing team. Based in our London workshop, the role also involves site-based work across the UK, depending on project requirements. This is a rare opportunity to work on some of the country’s most prestigious heritage buildings, monuments, and collections . You will take a leading role in the delivery of complex conservation projects, overseeing project teams, managing client relationships, and contributing to strategic development. As a senior member of the team, you will also act as a mentor to junior staff and help shape the future of conservation practice within the company. The Lead Conservator will report to the Senior Conservators and work closely with Project Managers and other senior team members to ensure seamless planning, coordination, and execution of projects. You will be expected to contribute actively to a collaborative working environment that supports both high professional standards and team development. You will be working closely with museums, heritage organisations, public institutions, and private clients, delivering treatments to the highest standards on nationally significant objects and sites . Key Responsibilities Lead and deliver high-quality conservation treatments on a variety of objects and structures, including metalwork, stone and composite sculpture, and decorative surfaces. Manage projects from assessment to completion, including documentation, budgeting, and client liaison. Supervise and support junior staff and freelance conservators. Develop treatment proposals and condition reports. Ensure all work adheres to conservation best practices, health and safety regulations, and ethical standards. Coordinate with project managers and senior colleagues to ensure smooth delivery across all stages of the project. Contribute to the development of the company’s conservation strategy and training initiatives. Recognised degree in Conservation (or equivalent professional experience). Minimum 5 years of post-qualification experience, including project management. Specialist expertise in the conservation of metals, sculpture, and decorative surfaces. Strong documentation, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Experience of leading teams and mentoring junior staff. Excellent communication and client-facing abilities. Willingness to travel for on-site work. Accreditation with ICON (ACR), or working towards accreditation. Knowledge of current developments and research in conservation materials and methods. Experience working on public realm or heritage site installations. Full clean Driving Licence.
