The Risk and Compliance Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining the firm’s risk management and compliance framework. The role ensures that the firm complies with all applicable legal, regulatory, and professional obligations while proactively identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks associated with legal practice, operations, and client engagement. This position plays a critical role in safeguarding the firm’s reputation, supporting ethical practice, and enabling sustainable growth.
Responsibilities
- Identify, assess, and monitor operational, legal, regulatory, financial, and reputational risks.
- Maintain and regularly update the firm’s risk register.
- Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies and controls.
- Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and professional conduct rules (e.g., bar association, legal regulators).
- Monitor compliance with data protection and privacy laws.
- Oversee complaints handling procedures and regulatory reporting obligations.
- Draft, implement, and maintain firm-wide compliance and risk policies.
- Review and update policies in line with regulatory changes and best practices.
- Support internal audits, external audits, and regulatory inspections.
- Ensure appropriate governance frameworks and controls are in place.
- Conduct compliance monitoring and periodic risk assessments.
