My client is looking for a talented and experienced Java Solution Technical Architect to join their growing team in the healthcare sector. In this role, you will take a high-level strategic approach to architecture, ensuring the overall design of complex systems is optimized for scalability, security, and performance. You will collaborate closely with stakeholders, engineers, and product owners, acting as a technical thought leader and guiding the engineering teams with involvement in day-to-day activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Architectural Leadership: Define and lead the architecture of complex, large-scale systems using modern Java technologies, ensuring alignment with the business’s strategic goals. Provide high-level architecture design decisions for microservices, APIs, and cloud solutions, ensuring adherence to best practices and industry standards. This role will be largely hands-off, however liaising and communicating with engineers within Java is required.
  • Stakeholder Liaison: Collaborate with business stakeholders, product owners, and senior leadership to ensure the architecture aligns with the company’s vision and goals. Communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders in a clear and accessible way.
  • Team Collaboration: Work with engineering teams to ensure the architecture is understood and implemented correctly. Act as a mentor to senior developers and engineers, fostering a culture of learning and continuous improvement. Guide and collaborate with product owners to ensure that technical decisions align with business objectives.
  • Design and Strategy: Design scalable, efficient, and secure microservices-based architectures that can scale with business needs. Develop strategies for integrating with existing systems, and ensure APIs are designed for extensibility and maintainability. Evaluate and recommend appropriate technologies, frameworks, and tools for specific use cases.
  • Cloud Architecture (AWS): Lead the design and implementation of cloud-native applications on AWS, leveraging services such as EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, and others. Ensure that security, performance, and cost optimization principles are applied in cloud-based solutions.
  • Documentation & Governance: Maintain comprehensive technical documentation for architecture designs, patterns, and decision-making processes. Establish and enforce architectural guidelines, governance, and best practices to ensure quality across the engineering teams.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Proven Experience: Proven experience in a senior technical role, such as Technical Architect or Lead Developer, with a focus on Java-based solutions. Demonstrable expertise in Java programming and designing enterprise-level applications. Strong experience with microservices architecture, API design, and cloud-native solutions.
  • Healthcare Industry Experience (Preferred, but not essential): Understanding of healthcare IT systems, regulatory requirements (such as HIPAA or GDPR), and healthcare-specific challenges is a plus, but not required.
  • Cloud Expertise: Solid experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS), including architecture, deployment, and optimization of cloud applications. Familiarity with AWS services such as EC2, Lambda, S3, RDS, and API Gateway.
  • Architecture & Design Patterns: Strong grasp of software design patterns and best practices for large-scale distributed systems. Ability to design solutions that are highly available, fault-tolerant, and scalable.
  • Communication & Collaboration: Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to liaise with stakeholders at various levels, from engineers to senior executives. Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and lead complex architectural discussions.
  • Problem-Solving & Analytical Thinking: Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make high-level decisions based on technical constraints and business goals. Ability to balance technical debt with new feature development and innovation.

Work Environment & Benefits:

  • Location: Hybrid working, with 1 day per week required on-site in London.
  • Flexible working hours with an emphasis on work-life balance.
  • Competitive salary and benefits package, including health insurance, pension contributions, and more.
  • Opportunity to contribute to impactful projects within the healthcare industry, improving patient outcomes and healthcare services.
  • Access to ongoing training and career development opportunities.
  • A 2-3 stage interview process is on offer, with interview slots available immediately.
