About the Role

IT sits at the heart of the organisations business, enabling continuous innovation while delivering cost-effective, high-quality services to clients globally. The organisations core platforms run on HP NonStop (Tandem) infrastructure, with messaging and communications built on Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL). We are seeking an experienced Application Design Analyst to join a high-performing squad within the GBS UK division. You will contribute across the full software development lifecycle, with a strong focus on design, development, and integration of messaging solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • You will play a critical role in delivering robust, scalable middleware solutions. Responsibilities include:
  • Design & Documentation
    • Produce High-Level Application Design (HLAD) documents
    • Create Detailed Technical Design Documents (TDD) aligned with functional requirements
    • Develop program specifications for impacted components
    • Create reference documentation to support ongoing application maintenance
  • Development & Testing
    • Develop IBM App Connect Enterprise (ACE) solutions
    • Produce deployment scripts and deployment documentation
    • Design and execute unit tests, ensuring full code path coverage
    • Define and execute sub-system testing for messaging workflows
    • Support application integration and release activities
  • Collaboration & Governance
    • Participate in peer reviews for design, code, and testing artefacts
    • Ensure adherence to quality standards and best practices
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams across distributed systems

Technical Environment

  • Platforms: Linux (Red Hat Enterprise Linux)
  • Middleware & Technologies: IBM App Connect Enterprise (ACE) v12 / v13, WebSphere MQ v9.0, Oracle 19 (SQL, PL/SQL, Database design)
  • Messaging & Integration: Kafka, HP NonStop, SWIFT connectivity, Message formats: MRM, XML, JSON
  • Programming: At least one of: C, C++, SQL, Linux scripting

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Proven end-to-end software development lifecycle experience
  • Strong analytical, design, and problem-solving skills
  • Hands-on expertise with:
    • ACE development & administration
    • MQ design and messaging patterns
    • Oracle database technologies (SQL / PL-SQL)
  • Experience in distributed Linux environments
  • Exposure to large-scale financial or enterprise systems

Desirable Skills

  • Knowledge of SWIFT messaging standards: ISO 15022, ISO 20022
  • Experience working with HP NonStop / Tandem systems
  • Familiarity with event-driven architectures (Kafka)
