This role sits at the intersection of traditional infrastructure engineering and the expanding potential of automation and AI-driven operations. With most of our environment hosted in Azure and a smaller on-premise footprint, you'll work hands-on across a broad range of technologies while contributing to our modern infrastructure strategy.

What you'll be doing

  • Design and implement standardised templates, configuration baselines, and self-service models for efficient cloud resource provisioning
  • Build and support solutions across compute, storage, networking, physical infrastructure, software, COTS, open-source tools, and cloud services (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS)
  • Automate repetitive or manual tasks to reduce operational overhead and improve consistency
  • Maintain secure infrastructure components, including identity and access management, patching, and disaster recovery
  • Support high-availability operations through robust processes, monitoring, and controls across cloud and on-prem workloads
  • Maintain awareness of information security risks and apply appropriate controls to mitigate threats
  • Apply modern engineering practices and infrastructure standards
  • Work with third-party vendors to ensure the health and availability of hosted or outsourced services
  • Collaborate with the Security Operations Centre on threat detection and incident response activities
  • Take ownership of incidents and problems through to resolution or formal handover
  • Conduct root-cause analysis to identify and address underlying issues
  • Troubleshoot across a wide range of infrastructure technologies
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across technical and non-technical teams
  • Act as a second-line escalation point for issues raised via self-service channels or the Service Desk

What we're looking for

  • Experience managing infrastructure in a DevOps-aligned environment, including Infrastructure-as-Code, automation, and enterprise monitoring tools (e.g., Ansible, Terraform, Zabbix, Azure Monitor)
  • Strong experience with Linux server administration
  • Hands-on experience with Azure plus one of: AWS or Google Cloud
  • Knowledge of IP-based networking, WAN technologies, virtualisation, cloud platforms, DHCP/DNS, Microsoft 365, and SAN/NAS storage
  • Experience with modern event/log management, alerting, and workflow automation tools (e.g., Power Automate, Azure Log Analytics, Azure Monitor)
  • Ability to take ownership of issues and coordinate cross-functional resolution
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to break down complex problems and identify root causes
  • Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple workstreams and balance competing priorities
  • Sound judgement, pragmatism, and the ability to navigate changing demands effectively
