The role
As Financial Reporting Manager, you’ll play a pivotal role in managing and transforming the financial reporting processes that underpin Halfords’ complex supply chain. This is a high-impact position responsible for tracking purchasing and inventory across the network, managing supplier financing lines, and preparing both internal management reports and external statutory reporting. You’ll own the accounting processes for a key area of the business that supports £80–£100m of annual purchasing, and your work will be seen at board level.
You’ll bring deep experience in technical accounting, with a strong grasp of IFRS and UK GAAP, along with the ability to manage complex reconciliations in a heavily manual, spreadsheet-driven environment. As a qualified accountant with strong Excel skills, you’ll thrive on navigating detail, challenging assumptions, and proactively improving accuracy and controls. This role requires someone who can build strong relationships across supply chain, category, legal, and finance teams, as well as with external logistics partners and auditors.
This is an opportunity for a finance leader who’s not afraid of complexity and who sees the challenge in turning fragmented manual processes into something robust, accurate, and systemised. With SAP in place and a transformation agenda on the table, there’s real scope to make your mark by shaping long-term reporting solutions that reduce risk, increase transparency, and improve efficiency across the board.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the end-to-end financial reporting process for Halfords Autocentres\’ 3PL supply chain, including internal and external reporting.
- Design and implement improved processes, controls, and reporting frameworks to streamline supply chain accounting.
- Manage monthly and year-end reconciliations across inventory, purchasing, accounts payable, and receivable — ensuring alignment with IFRS and UK GAAP.
- Prepare and deliver accurate management reporting and analysis, including adjustments for group consolidation and statutory accounts.
- Lead the transformation of manual reporting processes into systemised, automated workflows in partnership with ERP and finance teams.
- Work closely with internal teams (Supply Chain, Category, Finance, Legal) and external 3PL providers to ensure data accuracy and accountability.
- Liaise with external auditors and provide documentation and justification for areas of ownership.
- Drive continuous improvement across reporting accuracy, data integrity, and process efficiency within a high-value, high-volume purchasing environment.
About You
- Qualified accountant (ACCA, ACA or equivalent) with post-qualification experience in a technical finance role involving complex reporting and reconciliations.
- Strong understanding of IFRS and UK GAAP, with a proven ability to translate management reporting into accurate statutory accounts.
- Advanced Excel skills with experience managing large data sets and building robust reconciliation processes across purchasing, inventory, and supplier financing.
- Track record of driving process improvement, comfortable designing and embedding new finance controls, automating workflows, and integrating manual processes into ERP systems.
- Confident working across cross-functional teams and external stakeholders, including supply chain, legal, commercial, and 3PL service providers.
- Highly analytical and detail-focused, with a proactive approach to solving problems and navigating ambiguity in fast-moving environments.
- Technically astute and intellectually curious, with the resilience and ownership to lead reporting transformation in a high-accountability role.
Reward & Benefits
- A fair and competitive salary evaluated against market data, annual discretionary bonus scheme, pension, life assurance, 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays and enhanced family leave.
- Commitment and dedication to your ongoing personal and professional development. We help you to own and grow your potential so you can be at your best in your current role and to support your future career aspirations.
- We offer hybrid working with a blend of working in our Support Centre and from home.
- You will have access to a wealth of employee discounts across the Halfords suite of products and services.
- Wellbeing and inclusion are at the heart of our colleague experience. We offer resources and ongoing support to enhance your wellbeing at work and active Colleague Networks supporting inclusion initiatives across Halfords.
