Haldane Fisher, a well-established and trusted supplier to the construction and building materials sector, is seeking an experienced Transport Manager to oversee both the operational and compliance functions of transport activities based at our Garstang branch.
This is a hands-on management role responsible for ensuring the efficient day-to-day running of transport operations across the North West region, maintaining the highest standards of compliance, safety, and customer service.
Working Hours:
45 hours per week 7:30am to 5:00pm, Monday to Friday, with every other Saturday required.

Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the day-to-day transport operation from the Garstang branch, ensuring effective fleet utilisation and operational efficiency
- Manage and coordinate transport activity covering the North West region
- Take responsibility for a fleet of 6 or more vehicles at any one time
- Ensure full compliance with Operator Licence requirements and DVSA regulations
- Monitor driver performance, conduct driver debriefs, and ensure compliance with driver hours and working time regulations
- Manage vehicle maintenance schedules, inspections, defect reporting, and overall fleet compliance
- Lead, support, and develop drivers and transport staff to maintain high service standards
- Plan routes and allocate resources effectively to maximise operational performance
- Investigate and resolve transport and operational issues in a timely manner
- Maintain accurate records, audits, and compliance documentation
- Work closely with internal departments and customers to meet service and delivery expectations
Requirements
- Proven experience in a Transport Manager or senior transport operations role
- Valid Transport Manager CPC qualification (essential)
- Experience being named on an Operator Licence or acting as a nominated Transport Manager highly desirable
- Background within builders merchants, construction materials, or a similar logistics-driven environment preferred
- Strong knowledge of transport legislation, operator licence compliance, and driver regulations
- Experience managing multi-vehicle operations and regional delivery networks
- Strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills
- Ability to balance operational demands with compliance responsibilities in a fast-paced environment
