Opportunities to join Hakluyt. Our firm is growing, and we are currently seeking expressions of interest from well-qualified candidates for an editor and risk manager role in our Quality Control and Compliance (QCC) team, starting in London.
What we do: Hakluyt advises leaders of the world’s largest companies and investment firms on the opportunities and risks facing their businesses. Over the last 30 years, our clients have turned to us for the judgement and insight we provide on their most important and sensitive commercial issues. Our advice is delivered by our in-house team of experienced professionals, and informed by high-quality conversations held by well-connected individuals in our global network. Our connectivity is unique in its scale, reach and seniority, and allows us to access the thinking of relevant stakeholders without revealing our clients’ interests. Few other business models depend on human relationships as much as ours: this, above all, is what makes us different.
We hold ourselves to exacting ethical standards, and we take on work only once we are confident that we can provide value. We are discerning about whom we work for and with. This approach to doing business has helped us build a blue-chip client base that includes many of the world’s most prestigious companies, successful private equity and infrastructure funds, and reputable institutional investors. Our clients value our discretion and independence of thought. The range of issues we work on is extraordinary: M&A, shareholder activism, regulatory and policy issues, disputes, senior hires, sustainability, and more.
The role: The QCC team plays a crucial role at the heart of Hakluyt. Our written and oral work for clients undergoes rigorous editing by QCC so that it meets our high standards. The team also ensures that the firm’s commercial and risk-management policies are applied to all the work we undertake – from decision-making over client acceptance and the drafting of proposals, through to final reporting and the provision of advice. In doing so, the QCC team works seamlessly with our general counsel and legal colleagues, ensuring we maintain the highest standards of ethics and compliance.
As with the wider Hakluyt team, QCC is made up of people from a variety of professional backgrounds. There is no ‘one size fits all’ profile. However, we are looking for a candidate with strong commercial awareness, superb editing and writing skills, a sharp eye for detail and accuracy, excellent judgment, and an understanding of –and interest in –the management of risk. The successful candidate is likely to have an enquiring mind, confidence and clarity of expression, and a proven ability to work collegially in a fast-paced environment. Strong EQ is essential – the candidate will need to build trusted relationships with colleagues across all Hakluyt offices, working with client-facing teams to enable their business development and project delivery.
Day to day, the successful candidate will review and edit client work; help colleagues identify and manage a range of risks; and provide practical guidance on developing client relationships and running projects. As they gain experience, they may also take on wider responsibilities alongside client-facing colleagues, including delivery of written and oral reporting and client management. They are likely to advise colleagues across the company on a range of issues, with a focus on quality, compliance and risk management. There are also opportunities to contribute more widely to the development of the firm, for example by building our senior connectivity and running differentiated client and marketing events.
What we offer: The successful candidate will start as an executive, and there is a pathway within the team for promotion to director and then election to the partnership, depending on performance. Responsibilities grow with experience and capability. Compensation is competitive and in line with other leading professional services firms, comprising a base salary and an annual performance-related bonus. We also offer a generous range of benefits including pension, health insurance, and 25 days’ holiday per annum (plus the days between Christmas and New Year).
The team is expanding internationally. After spending time in London, the successful candidate may be expected to move to an office in North America or Asia, subject to personal preference and the needs of the business.
Hakluyt is an Equal Opportunity Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, genetics, disability, age, veteran status or any other status protected by applicable law.
This position is classified as Exempt under the US Fair Labor Standards Act, where the FLSA applies. Hakluyt is committed to complying with its accommodation obligations in respect of individuals with disabilities.
