Main Purpose of the Role:

Reporting directly to the Cutting Shop Supervisor, the main purpose of the Machine Operative is to operate equipment such as the saw, press brake and laser within the Cutting Shop.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Take measurements and mark material for cutting or shaping.
  • Plan the sequence of necessary actions for the completion of a job.
  • Select appropriate machines (e.g., saw, press brake and laser) and position or load material for a job.
  • Monitor machine while working to adjust the feed, maintain temperature and identify issues.
  • Determine and program size of batches and speed of machine.
  • Monitor output to ensure consistency with specifications and discard defects.
  • To work in accordance with Company operating procedures and guidelines.
  • Other ad hoc duties as requested by management.

Person Specification:

  • Familiar with common safety and protective equipment.
  • Excellent manual dexterity, accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience in using and/or programming manual, semi-automated or automated tools and machines as above.
  • Ability to use precision tools to take accurate measurements.
  • Ability to read schematics and manuals.
  • Knowledge of metal properties and other material.
  • Mathematical skills and analytical abilities.
  • 20 days holiday, increasing by one day for every full year of service to a maximum of 25.
