Position Overview

The associate risk control consultant evaluates our policyholders’ risk control environment from an all-lines perspective. Working under established procedure and guidance, they will facilitate on-site surveys and inspections with third party field representatives, identify risk exposures and analyze risk experience and program needs with our policyholders. This role will work closely with our internal insurance teams as a trusted advisor providing data-driven risk mitigation services and translating exposures into insights that inform underwriting decisions. They will also work closely with other members of the risk team for policyholder training and other HAI Group services as a part of the consultation process.

Essential Functions

  • Identifies property and general liability concerns through third-party property inspection reports.
  • Communicates, through reports or other means, identified life safety, operational, and property concerns to HAI Group’s Underwriting, Claims, Account Services departments and insureds.
  • Collaborates with senior team members and management to create risk management educational materials, such as articles and templates to be shared with policyholders.
  • Partners with risk control and other departments to facilitate risk/safety training and other services.
  • Participates in on-site inspections, if needed.

Job Requirements

Required

  • 0-2+ years’ experience in the risk control or safety field.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in safety, engineering, or related field; or equivalent work experience.
  • Basic knowledge of OSHA and NFPA standards.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to travel approximately 20% annually.
  • Must be able to be on-site for two weeks for training upon hire in our Cheshire, CT office.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future.
  • Self-motivated and highly organized.
  • Effective meeting deadlines.
  • Excellent oral and written communicator.
  • Possesses a high level of integrity.
  • Willingness to learn and utilize best practices.

Preferred

  • Associate in Risk Management (ARM), Associate in Risk Management for Public Entities (ARM-P), and/or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or equivalent.
  • Experience with general liability and property insurance and other insurance coverages and applications.
  • Experience with apartment real estate or public housing operations.

  • Inside climate-controlled office building.
  • Prolonged sitting and using a PC.
  • Travel ability.
  • Ability to lift 25lbs.
