The Opportunity

Haggerty Jaques is working with an established organisation in the North East that is looking to appoint an experienced in-house lawyer to lead its legal function on an interim basis.
\n
\n
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys getting stuck into a varied in-house role, managing a team and providing practical legal support across a busy organisation.
\n
\n
The initial appointment will be for approximately five months, although there may also be an opportunity to explore a longer-term or permanent position.
\n
\n
The Role
\n
\n
You will take responsibility for the day-to-day management of an established legal team, overseeing workloads, delegating matters and ensuring the organisation continues to receive high-quality legal advice.
\n
\n
The work is varied and includes commercial contracts, infrastructure and major projects, property, employment and general legal matters.
\n
\n
An important part of the role will be providing steady, supportive leadership, helping the team manage competing priorities and working closely with senior stakeholders.
\n
\n
About You
\n
\n
We are looking for an experienced in-house lawyer who is comfortable managing people and overseeing a broad legal workload.
\n
\n
You will ideally have:
\n
\n

- Strong general commercial and in-house legal experience. Previous experience managing or leading a legal team. Excellent organisational and delegation skills. A pragmatic, approachable and solutions-focused style. The confidence to work closely with senior stakeholders.
\n
\n
You don’t need experience in every area of law, and we are very happy to consider candidates from both private and public sector backgrounds.
\n
\n
The ability to start at relatively short notice would be particularly helpful.
\n
\n
