Haggerty Jaques is delighted to be instructed on the search for a Legal Counsel to join the legal and compliance function of a major UK consumer-facing business.

This is an exciting opportunity for a commercially minded UK-qualified lawyer who enjoys partnering closely with stakeholders, influencing business decisions and providing practical legal advice in a fast-moving environment.

Working as part of a highly regarded in-house legal team, you will support a broad range of commercial and strategic initiatives, helping the business navigate regulatory requirements whilst enabling its commercial objectives. This is a role where legal advice is valued, where you will be encouraged to think creatively and commercially, and where no two days are quite the same.

The Opportunity

You will work closely with senior stakeholders across the commercial function, advising on a wide variety of contractual, regulatory and governance matters. The role offers significant exposure to business-critical projects and the opportunity to become a trusted advisor to teams operating at the heart of a highly competitive sector.

Alongside providing day-to-day legal support, you will have the chance to contribute to strategic projects, process improvements and the ongoing development of legal best practice across the business.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Advising on a broad range of commercial agreements and trading arrangements.
  • Drafting, negotiating and managing complex commercial contracts.
  • Supporting strategic business projects and operational initiatives.
  • Providing guidance on regulatory and governance matters impacting commercial decision-making.
  • Advising stakeholders on risk management and helping to develop practical solutions.
  • Supporting the resolution of supplier and commercial disputes.
  • Assisting with responses to regulatory enquiries and investigations where required.
  • Contributing to the development of legal processes, guidance and governance frameworks.
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues across legal, compliance and the wider business.

About You

We are keen to hear from UK-qualified lawyers with experience gained in-house or in private practice within one or more of the following areas:

  • Commercial Contracts
  • Corporate
  • Competition
  • Regulatory

This role would particularly suit someone who enjoys building relationships across a business and wants to play a visible role in helping commercial teams achieve their objectives.
