The Opportunity

The team is experiencing a very high level of instructions and is looking for an experienced individual to assist for at least a twelve-month period. The team is split between various office locations and enjoys an excellent range of high quality work, particularly from the health, education and government sectors, as well as from private sector commercial clients.

The types of things you will be working on include:

  • DSAR queries – you’ll be responding to requests as well as considering strategy, proportionality, exemptions, and risk (with support available from a team of paralegals)
  • ICO investigations – you’ll be information gathering, drafting responses, and managing correspondence
  • Freedom of Information support and advice
  • Advising on cyber attacks
  • Advising on third-party data requests – involving the police and regulators
  • Supporting on matters that go before the First-tier Tribunal
  • Guiding clients on handling personal data in internal processes such as grievances and disciplinaries
  • Data breaches - supporting pre-action correspondence and litigation (with litigation assistance on hand if you come from a purely non-contentious background)

You will have direct client contact, a team of paralegals to assist you, and some fantastic colleagues to work alongside. The team you’ll be joining is genuinely friendly, welcoming, supportive and collaborative.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Someone with experience of advising on the basics of data breaches, the GDPR and the FOI regime
  • Experience gained in any of the following capacities: qualified lawyer; specialist advisor; senior paralegal; data protection practitioner; or as a legal executive
  • An individual from a law firm or from an in-house team (particularly from the public sector)
  • If you work within a law firm currently, your data protection and information governance experience could have been gained within a commercial or a litigation team
  • By way of guidance for applicants from a legal background, our client is open to candidates who are between NQ (with demonstrable experience) and senior (sub-partner) level.
  • Please note that we are also open to hearing from applicants who are only looking for a permanent role.
